Background & Objective

The Republic of Korea has been focusing its efforts on international cooperation and education programs for developing countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Latin America, particularly towards the goal of building the capacity of these countries to adequately respond to climate change issues.

As part of such an effort, the Greenhouse Gas Inventory & Research Center of Korea (GIR) and the National Institute of Environmental Human Resources Development (NIEHRD) started an international training program on national greenhouse gas inventories and mitigation modeling in year 2011 to address the capacity for research around such issues.

GIR and NIEHRD jointly sponsor a summer training program to support data collection and research on mitigation actions in developing countries, through an intensive, comprehensive study program on GHG inventories and mitigation modeling.
